About the literary translation club.

	TRANSLATORS

        The literary translation club was founded in 2004 under the Faculty of Uzbek Philology at the National University of Uzbekistan. Its objective is to translate Uzbek literature into foreign languages and world literature into Uzbek language. Members of the club include teachers, students and poets and writers who are able to translate literary works from/to English, German, Turkish, French, Russian and other languages and people who love poetry and fiction. We know many classical literary starts of the world but it is also fact that we are not aware of contemporary world literature. In turn, both Uzbek classical and contemporary literature is not known in the world because of the lack of translation works. The club aims to fill this gap between the different literatures as much as possible.

        Members of the literary translation club, who began their activity with translation of world literature into Uzbek, nowadays are translating selected works from Uzbek literature into foreign languages. Parallel with classical poets and writers, works from contemporary world literature were translated into Uzbek language. Representatives from German literature such as Schiller, Ingrid Vuyertenberger, Bert Ellent, Helmut Hohrayn, American poets and writers such as Dorothy Parker, John Ashbery, Christopher Merrill, Peter Nazareth, Ilya kaminsky, Mary Gravitt, brilliant voices from English, French, Indian and other literatures - Shakespeare, W. B. Yeats, V. S. Naipaul, Paul Elluard, Pierre Reverdy, Francis Carco, Rene Char, K. V. Tirumalesh, Rajeevan Tkachom Poyil, Vivienne Plumb, Kurt Folch were translated and published in Uzbek newspapers and broadcasted.

        Poems by eminent voices of Uzbek literature such as Chulpon and Usmon Nosir ("Dream of lightsome dawns"), as well as poems of more than 50 contemporary Uzbek poets ("Tunes of Asia") were translated into English and published in two chapbooks.

        The main activity of the literary club is as follows:

       •  To select literary works and to translate them.
       •  To organize examination of translated works by well-known translators and scholars.
      •  To recommend translations for publication in anthologies, different reviews and in a series like "Brilliant voices of Uzbek literature" and "World literature".
       •  To hold meeting with well-experienced translators, poets and writers.
      •  To organize literary reading parties, workshops and seminars in cooperation with foreign Embassies and organizations.
       •  To make friends and cooperate with international poets and writers.
       •  To send representatives to literary festivals, creative writing and exchange programs.

        The literary club makes an effort to establish friendly literary relationship with foreign translation clubs and literary organizations. For the last two years members of the club have attended international writing programs, workshops and seminars in the United States of America, Germany , India , Turkey and Great Britain .
